Are you struggling to find your personal style?
Well, today I’m going to give you a guide on how you can create your own style, to help you possess the perfect cohesive wardrobe.
NUMBER 1 – FIND YOUR COLOUR PALETTE
Which colours/shades do you feel the most confident in? Write them down and use them as a guide when you are shopping. I personally only wear black, white & khaki – these are the shades I feel the most comfortable in and I feel that these colours suit the most. If you wear colours that you’re not really feelin’, it’ll show.
TIP: your colour palette will work even better if you choose colours that flow well together.
EXAMPLES (my opinion)
Camel, cream & khaki.
Black, white & grey.
Blue, grey & white.
Khaki, black & white.
Blush, camel & white.
NUMBER 2 – KNOW THE OCCASIONS
List down the different types of activities that you typically get up to. When you have listed these things down, write the type of items you would usually wear during these activities. Once you know the items you need in your wardrobe, it’ll help you stop buying unnecessary/useless garments that you will get little to no use out of.
NUMBER 3 – LOOK AT YOUR STYLE INSPIRATIONS
Find your style inspirations – one of the easiest ways to do this is by using Instagram. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a celebrity, either – there are so many really stylish people on Insta that take really beautiful, well presented photos of their outfits, so take your pick and look at what they are wearing to help inspire you.
NUMBER 4 – WORK WITH YOUR SHAPE
This is a key tip – different shapes and sizes suit different types of clothing, but working with your shape and wearing clothing that compliments your body will help you look 10 times better.
NUMBER 5 – FIND YOUR SIGNATURE ACCESSORIES
My signature accessories are all of my piercing jewellery and a watch. Do you tend to opt for a hoop earring? Are you a fan of the stack-able ring look? Whatever your signature accessories are, invest in the item(s) and be sure to include them in every look, to add a little you to every outfit you wear.
NUMBER 6 – DON’T BUY JUST BECAUSE IT IS TRENDING
This is crucial because it will save you money and space in your wardrobe. I personally don’t like to buy things just because they’re trending – a lot of trends don’t last more than one season and so if something goes out of style, it can cause you to not wear it anymore, meaning that it was a waste of your money. A lot of people will say ”but if it comes back into fashion, I can just re-wear it” – but realistically, as and when it comes back into style, there will be exciting new versions of it and so you’re most likely gonna want to shop the trend even more, which causes a vicious cycle. You can obviously still wear it, but if you’re wanting more of a long-lasting cohesive wardrobe that still looks trendy, trend-shopping isn’t advisable. I’m not saying not to trend-shop, but just be realistic.
Good questions to ask yourself when trend-shopping
Will the item go with 5 or more outfits currently in your wardrobe?
Do you like it or do you just think you like it because you’ve seen 50 people on Instagram sporting the look?
Would you buy it if it wasn’t on trend?
Would you buy it if it was triple the price?
The answers to the above questions should help you come to a conclusion!
I hope this helped inspire you to find your style.
